Introduction to Mindfulness

4 weeks, 60 minutes

We will be introducing participants to what mindfulness is, and how to practice it both in a daily practice (formally – set aside time) and informally throughout the day as conditions arise and change. We will be focusing on the body, the breath, thoughts, and emotions.

Each class includes a talk (instruction), meditation practice, and question/conversation regarding what we’ve learned. We will focus on age-appropriate themes, content, and references.

Deepening Practice

4 weeks, 60 minutes

We will be deepening our practice with focused classes on Mindfulness of Emotions, Compassion, Transforming Habits, and Cultivating Well-being.

Each class includes a talk (instruction), meditation practice, and question/conversation regarding what we’ve learned. We will focus on age appropriate themes, content, and references.

The Artist Way

12 weeks, 60 minutes

The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron is an international bestseller on the subject of creativity. Whether you see yourself as an artist or not, this book and class can be an incredibly useful resource to tap into your creative side.

The 1 hour a week 12 week long class will take students through the 12 chapters with an emphasis on the accompanying chapter exercises and additional creativity exercises and strategies (i.e. meditation tools).

This material can work with anyone, no matter how dormant or energized their creative life may be, and can enhance their ability to be more fully and genuinely themselves.

Instructor:

Nikki Jean is a recording artist, who has toured with Lupe Fiasco, Kanye West, N.E.R.D., Rihanna, Maroon 5 and Train. She has written with over 30 members of the Songwriter Hall of Fame to complete her concept album “Pennies In A Jar.” She’s been seen on The Late Show with David Letterman, The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, The Tavis Smiley Show, CNN, and the Hannibal Burress Show among others and is currently signed to Rhymesayers Entertainment.

In addition to her work as a professional in the music industry, she has been a music director, instructor, and has been practicing meditation since 2008. Her practice is rooted in mindfulness meditation and insight meditation. Her philosophy in groups and individual sessions is to not only work with our thoughts and feelings to progress creatively in the field of music, but also to use music and creativity as a way to work with our thoughts and feelings and lead more easeful fulfilling lives.

Nikki Jean holds a BA in Sociology from Howard University, studied with the British American Drama Academy in Oxford, and is currently studying meditation under the instruction of Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach, and will be receiving her Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification in 2023.
